I do not think Id go with passing up on it as making a "Mistake"
Id go with more of Microsoft making a good "Decision"
Think where MS would be right now if they had NOT gone with Kinect. I think that has more bearing than Sony and Nintendo deciding not to invest in this particular type of Hardware.
The biggest mistake in Gaming is owned by Nintendo for how they handled their deal with Sony at CES in 1991.
