I can't be bothered to read through 5 pages of flamebait in order to glean the general opinion and what has already been mentioned, I'll leave my opinion on this however.
Those who claim that "hardcore" are responsible for success of a console are sadly mistaken, no need to look further than the Wii, one of the biggest success stories in the industry, and thanks to what? The appeal to casual audience. "Hardcore" gaming is overrated, and most of the time those that keep chiming in regards to it being an important part of the industry are just deluding themselves.
Kinect aims at casual audience, and it does so thoroughly. I don't play games such as Wii music etc - the games considered casual, but I do tend to dabble in Just Dance etc, but my library mainly consists of FPS, RPGs and Strategy games, does that mean I am a casual now? I am not a big part of the market I don't think, but even games like JD which are aimed at casuals appeal to me.
It's a waiting game, expecting amazing software less than a year after the launch of peripheral is just stupid and another excuse some people use to discredit a popular product, I guess hating on Apple is so last year now that Kinect is out. If by this time next year there is no software that could be considered "hardcore" or no supposedly good software at all, then I think we can come to the conclusion that MS flopped the product, but until then, it's just a load of baseless opinions.
