Came in to say exactly this.
3DS and Vita are both portable game consoles. They are competitors, wether Sony wants them to be or not. They also claimed that PS3 wasn't competing with Wii and that PSP wasn't competing with DS. Fact is, if the 3DS does well, more people will buy it, and more games will be made for it. This will take potential customers from Vita and give game developers less reason to make games for it, hence competition.
