With regards Kinect, Eurogamer can reveal how Microsoft will improve its accuracy. The Kinect camera outputs in 640x480, but the depth buffer is 320x240. Microsoft restricts the resolution of Kinect because of Xbox 360 USB limitations revealed by Eurogamer last year. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
So, turning Kinect into a simple Webcam by disabling the depth info is now called "improving accuracy"? What was the point of Kinect, again?
And the depth buffer size is not 320*240. Due to the way Kinect works, it needs a minimum specle size of 2 by 2 pixels to calculate the depth field unambiguously. Therefore the 640*480 "image" size of the IR camera is reduced to 320*240. It's not Microsoft, it's physics.
