Hacks for lulz, and political hacks. In both cases they are looking to humiliate Sony. To cause Sony to lose money, reputation, and customers. Sorry folks Sony is the only real victim here. One Sony isn't to be trusted with personal information, and frankly you probably shouldn't buy a device from them that will access their network. Second you shouldn't reuse passwords. Honestly I really cannot even begin to fathom what some of you are thinking. Sony has proven the extraordinary fact that they are inept, reckless, and going down in flames. With all this you guys want to hitch a ride with them. Seriously your problem isn't how horribly bad people these hackers must be. The problem is that your cuddling up to their very easy target. The hackers keep screaming at you to jump off, and they keep making the point over and over. Eventually they are going to get tired of your I love the Sony crap, and aren't going to give a shit about destoying you while getting at Sony. They have only copied files so far. They haven't even reached inside of their bag of tricks for their most beloved items. You know viruses and trojans. How are you going to feel when these guys walk through the obvious crack Sony security, and place a virus in the patcher for PSN, and a few days later your console bricks out on you. |
For a start, you say they aren't victims. The information in the PSN hack was taken, and sold to god knows who - that makes them victims. Also the information here was given out, to whoever wants it, in the case of 12,500 accounts, and they also offered instructions for those who wanted to simply take what they wanted from Sony Pictures servers, everyone who has details on that server is potentially a victim.
As for these hacks, it's not just Sony they could target, Lulsec just got done with PBS, and Square Enix had loads of user data stolen from them too. Point is it's not just Sony that need to take a hard look at their security and the hackers, warning consumers away from Sony specifically is just an attempt to intentionally harm Sony's PR. Hardware and Software sales however suggest this hasn't worked in the slightest, yet... so there are still plenty of resentful hackers out to try and cause damage.
