I doubt these web servers have high priority access to other Sony servers, people probably just FTP new files and data over to it.
That said, yes it was a terrible excuse, it might be true. I'm not saying Sony aren't in the wrong here for not securing their data, they are, it shows incompetence. But I do not agree with the way we discovered how this information about them not securing passwords was obtained. No matter how bad Sony might be in this case, the hackers are far far worse for illegally hacking into servers and publishing data.
