I just think his statement is stupid and uncalled for. I don't agree and, since this news is posted on a forum where I am able to make posts, it is pretty natural for me to express my opinion on it. That is rather the point, I believe.
If you said that pigs fly, I would again express my opinion that your statement is stupid or, if I were in a nice mood, inquire why you made such a suggestion, :P.
Also, people consider it a stupid tactic because Sony has failed every time they became arrogant. Nintendo, on the other hand, needed no trash talk whatsoever to trash the competition over the last generation. Therefore, there's nothing wrong with saying that they should avoid wasting time criticizing the competition when it doesn't do them any good.
