You make it sound like Kinect is struggling. Lets see how its done in 2011 so far...
Now this... "Your only as big as you are right now." Kinect is the type of device that really sells during the holidays. Last I checked its not the holidays and its the same story for the Wii. Wii sales were pretty modest throughout 2010 yet it dominated the holidays. Hence, Kinect will be "big" again. Wii Balance Board doesn't have any killer apps other than the one its bundled with. So why does Kinect need them? Regardless there is hope for great games to come to Kinect. When you buy a Wii Balance Board there is not much else to look forward to than Wii Fit. I believe Nintendo passed on the Kinect technology because they didn't think it could be affordable. In the end they missed out on something great and it could have been their next big innovation. In due time they may just clone it though. |
Smart pointing out the sales for 2011 but let's move in a little deeper
January 1,076,007(39% of total)
February 694,699 (25% of total)
March 474,122 (17% of total)
April 309,614 (11% of total)
May 140,771 (5% of total) (missing a week so lets say it ends at 190k)
Its normal to see a decline like this but what I want to point out is that its falling much faster then other titles. It used to be #1 game on the chart expect for when their are new releases but now its being outsold by Just Dance and wii fit plus. I'm pretty sure a add on that was supposed to sky rocket the 360 was to do more. Not to be outsold by a 3rd party game and a over a year old expansion pack. Of course its doing bad compared to the wii titles. Its however outselling Black ops on both systems not combined and every other HD title. Also the Balance board was made for wii fit not to make games around it. Their is no game to my knowledge designed exclusively for the balance board its more of a option to put it in like the zapper.
As for it bumping in the holiday season, It will get a boast but the better question is how much? Wii sold on a lot of little games and bundles. What will kinect have for the holiday season to boasts its sales?
“3DV showed off a camera that detected motion in 3D, and had voice recognition – but Iwata-San was unconvinced he could sell it at a Nintendo price point. He also had some worries around latency during gameplay.
Your half right here but nintendo also didn't think the gameplay will work but he also said that it wouldn't fit with the wii's audience. So its due too affordability, gameplay issues and not fitting with audience. Quote is here
"While impressed with the tech, Nintendo passed on it, as Iwata did not feel the tech was a fit for Wii."
