Finally a use for those elderly people. /really bad taste joke.

In all seriousness, really commendable stuff. That's why I think Japan can overcome any crisis.

Except, oddly, the demographic one.

I don't think it's so bad that the country loses population. Even though the economy hasn't been growing much in the last couple of decades, the per capita income has grown more than in Western countries because the population has remained constant.

And sure, there may be too many people that get pensions, but that can be changed gradually. People of 80yrs and more earn much more than people who just retired in Japan currently. Also, they retire at 60, that can be brought up to 65 or even 70 in the future.

And, ultimately, even if pensions go considerably down, Japanese people would just accept it. Anyway, they take care of they're elderly so well that  that strain would be passed to younger generations who would use some of their resouces maintain them. Once the baby-boomers are gone, problem solved.

Japan's problem is their pensions are almos luxurios. That could be changed. As long as people live well, losing population is not a big deal. It is if you want to remain a world power, but not necessarily for the country's people.
