I don't doubt that that played a part in it, i'm just saying that they not only did that, but also have the "fairness" factor going for them, fairness in that the main competitors were all the kind of mainstay countries you'd expect to receive such an event, unless the FIFA decision process is supposed to be fundamentally different from the one used by the Olympics people...

I don't quite get this fairness factor. Do you mean that Russia and Qatar should have a natural advantage in the decision making, because they have never hosted the World Cup before?


Besides, obviously in that situation Russia, an expanding market, makes more sense than Qatar, a non-existent market. The bribe was painfully obvious. Anyway, I still wish it had gone to the US, also an expanding market. :-/
