In terms of franchise strength, Microsoft dwarfs Sony, and Nintendo makes Microsoft look like a Hobbit.

Sony may be one of the biggest in the Industry, they have released more games than either Nintendo or Microsoft, but those games have none selling over 10 million, in fact Sony's highest selling title sold only 6.2 million, and all titles combined sold under 80 million on PS3.

Microsoft, on the otherhand, has two titles over 10 million, and one title (Halo Reach) which is not far behind. Microsoft also released far fewer titles than Sony and sold over 100 million games.

Nintendo easily has the strongest franchises with 7 games which have sold over 20 million, and have sold a total of over 330 million titles sold on Wii alone. The accomplishment is almost double Microsoft and Sony combined.

In terms of quality, Microsoft has Halo, Nintendo has Mario and Zelda. Sony's top franchise is Gran Turismo, which does not hold nearly the same significance to the videogaming universe as the other three I mentioned. Most people don't even know what else Sony makes besides Gran Turismo, but everyone knows Microsoft does Halo, and Nintendo does Mario and Zelda. In terms of quality, Nintendo came out on top with Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 by reviewers standards, Halo also did well, but Gran Turismo disappointed.

What, lol?  You just said most people don't know games Sony makes besides GT (1 franchise), but try to make MS look better because everyone knows MS makes Halo (also only 1 franchise).  Nice try, I guess.  In terms of franchise strength, you say Sony hasn't had a single game hit over 10 mil (GT5 most likely will).  I'm guessing you're just going this gen, as GT3 sold almost 15 mil, something a MS game has yet to do.  But if you are going with games just from this gen, what 2nd game made by MS has sold over 10 mil?  Halo 3 is the only one so far.

@ OP

Definitely agree that Sony dwarfs MS in terms of IPs.  It seems MS's tactic of timed exclusives really only helped it early this gen, making it seem it had more exclusive IP's than it really did.  However, late in this gen, it is apparent that tactic has a big drawback.  Lack of exclusive games.  As many companies are no longer willing to go timed-exclusive, there is becoming less and less reason to have only a 360.  And since Sony is most likely not going to have bad start next gen, MS is still going to be lacking in the exclusive IP category.
