I shall prepare my flame sheild first, but at least it's better than Halo. now THAT is overrated.

I don't think so. While both are definitely over rated, Call of Duty takes that prize.

how so?  Call of Duty is known to be a "basic shooter with a lot of polish" and that's what it is.  Nothing more than a simple FPS game with little in the way of innovation, but what it does it does real well.  It's grounded mostly in reality, but there's plenty of modifications, realistic graphics, simple but awesome gameplay, etc.  Halo IS praised as some sort of game-changing messiah, like it did so much for the genre even though it was the same:  simple but well done.  The only thing worthy of the praise it gets is the Halo theme, which is truly epic.  besides that, the game is as generic and simple as you can imagine.  No creativity with the weapons, no customization, etc.  It wasn't until Halo 3 came out with Forge mode that there were any significant improvements to the series.

that's what I call overrated.

Due to Halo becoming a killer app that sold the XBox platform, it ended up, along with Call of Duty, putting FPS on consoles as a major genre that people by consoles for.  Just like Gran Turismo did for console driving sims, Halo did for FPS on consoles.  Because of this, it deserves the praise it gets.  And considering the state it is in now, with myself not really seeing ANY Halo fanboys about these days on forums, I am hard pressed to say it is overratede.  Overrated by whom?  Killzone gets more cheerleaders on here than Halo, and I wouldn't call Killzone overrated now.  Also both Halo and Killzone both got beverages, so the ONE thing Halo had in terms of overrated factor is now gone: getting a beverage for itself.
