for their first entry in the handheld-business it definatly a HUGE success hardware-wise...but on the other hand Sony really got it bad with the Software...i mean in the end they maybe only sold 15-25% of what it could had sold if the piracy wasnt that bad and the PSP and it games wasnt that easy to hack...

Truth be told, after experiencing hacking both the DS and the PSP, the DS is eons easier. PSP's problem is that the games are not truly portable. They are PS2 games on a handheld with a really slow drive. That is a good part of the reason why the DS did much better, I will not go about the others.

It is, however, a strong success. Lots of good games available and real lots of hardware sold.

another problem from the PSP is that they are more older gamers...i mean you got millions of kids with DS and the parents buying them games and you got millions of adults who got a PSP that prefer hacking games than buying ^^

Older players also know that such hacks exist. The good thing for the DS is that the majoity doesn't know that they can get their games for free. Imagine what would happen if the acekard had a TV ad, hahaha.

while I wouldn't say the majority know about DS piracy, I know quite a few people with R4 cards.  And the strangest thing is that more of them are middle-aged women, rather than what I would've considered the more likely suspects for game piracy.  The worst thing is that most of them are under the illusion that what they are doing is completely legal.

While I can't say if this is representative of the rest of EMEAA, it could contribute to the very low DS softwares sales we have .

R4's? They are under the illusion that it's a good flashcart, too, then :D

Being an EMEAA denizen myself, I'll say that piracy is certainly strong with us. EMEAA is the worst region out of the three, period.

The odd thing is that despite knowing lots of people with all the different platforms, I only know of piracy with the handhelds.  It must be a different mindset people have compared to the home consoles.  Despite how much I hearing about Wii hacking, I don't know anyone who has done in personally despite the same people doing it with a DS and/or PSP.  The closest I know of were people importing NSTC copies of SSBB and playing them on a PAL Wii via Freeloader.

I've  never pirated games, but with anime my hand is kind of forced.  With none shown on U.K TV bar the occasional Ghibli film, and the fact that some high profile series aren't released here at all (like One Piece), I have little choice.  It's almost a vicious cycle, where these factors which encourage downloading off the internet, have a negative effect on anime DVD sales, which results in less being release here, etc.  I still buy U.K anime DVDs when I can to help the industry, I have the likes of Bleach, Death Note, Fullmetal Alchemist, Soul Eater, Elfen Lied and Ghost in the Shell S.A.C, amongst many films.  The last thing I want is for the handheld market to become like this, even more so because the 3DS is region locked, thus removing my safety net if a game isn't localised.

Anyway, I feel like I really gone off topic...
