What happened to Sony was predictable, they sue lots of guys that discuss about the PS3 hacking (not the one for the back up player / usb loader, but the ones that do it for homebrew, not piracy) sure they should have prepare for shitstorm because you have the right to do what you want for the hardware your purchase, so it gives some incentive to hackers to mess with Sony and got some justification for it.

If sony only goes against the pirate, not the hackers they would have much less trouble.

um hold on... who did sony sue? wasn't it geohot?... if we agree up to this point then the next question logically would be is he an honest user?

imo i would hardly consider geohot an honest customer he hacked the ps3 through linux which forced sony to remove the feature... if they didn't do that im quite sure piracy would have been a larger problem than it is now and that online play would have been seriously compromised ( so i definitely support sony's actions here if anything geohot was to blame for linux's removal )

furthermore geohot then went on to hack the ps3 again posting the keys to completely unlock the console online and this lead ( unintentionally according to him ) to online play being compromised and to a significant increase in piracy... sony then retaliated and sued him subsequently reaching the agreement after the lawsuit

btw yes i agree that you should be able to do whatever you want with your property but this isn't that simple because it involves a network and software that does not belong to you
