Raises the question, why does he need the money if there's going to be a rapture?

I can't believe mature adult human beings fall for this :(

If they think this rapture thing can actually happen, it's no wonder they fall for these scams.

I think you mean if they actually believe scammers can predict the Rapture... Otherwise, doesn't every Christian believe that there'll be a Rapture someday? (albeit unexpectedly)

Not really, the concept of the "rapture" was created and popularized by millenialists using a ton of random sayings from the bible to "predict" the end of the world, think of it as an old ass version of the Da Vinci code.  The thing that pisses me off is that it has become SOOOOOOO ingrained with mainstream Christianity that it's crazy.  I was raised Catholic and never heard any talk about it until I got a bit older and met folks that went to "charismatic churches".

The Wikipedia defintion states at the beginning of the explanation portion:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rapture

The Catholic and Orthodox churches as well as the Reformed denominations have no tradition of a preliminary return of Christ and reject the doctrine, in part because they cannot find any reference to it among any of the early Church fathers and find its biblical foundation weak...."

so to answer your question....no
