Not in the least! For example, current knowledge of quantum mechanics introduces something called the unpredictability theory or something along those lines, stating that we can't ever know the precise position several electrons or something like that. I am not good at quantum physics so my appologies to anyone who are.

The point is that if we assume that the universe is purely mechanical, then it will be forced to work according to the rules of mechanics, even if we don't know these rules yet. It also follows that the universe then is deterministic, we just can't predict it. And it follows that free will does not really exsist with all the consequences that has for ethics.

If we find out that there are physical laws that have a will of their own that would be proof of the exsistence of 'God' in some form, wouldn't you say?

But if the physical laws have their own will, how would that change the fact that something's controlling us?
