Maybe cuz it's currently the easiest way I know to watch 3D youtube videos with a good image (as opposed to red/blue glasses 3d on youtube)

i just poked around youtube and the only 3D options i saw were red/cyan, side by side, and interlace. are you sure the youtube is compatible with the 3DS?

Side by side and interlace options work with regular 3D displays (if that display supports it) so they could make it work if they wanted

I hope we do get that feature, it'd be pretty cool

that's the part i was questioning.  i'll be honest, i was kind of hoping you had a specific answer to that (like a link) cause i haven't heard one way or the other.  i tried looking up the 3DS format and all i could find was .MPO which i couldn't figure out what that actually meant.

.MPO format is a still frame image format. 3D video is compatible with standard MP4/H.264 format/compression.

If someone wanted to re-upload their videos shot stereoscopically without being converted to anaglyph 3D they'd be properly viewable on a 3D display.

But for all practical purposes, I'll say that the 3D video content on the 3DS will largely be from whatever video service Nintendo adds to their store.
