Is the Wii-mote a reason to not buy a Wii?

I was just remembering back before the Wii came out, I wasn't sure if I wanted to buy it because the control scheme was so drastically different. I got one, and found out that for the most part the controls work quite well, although in some instances (Mortal Kombat, Madden), the regular old controller works better and is easier. I was just wondering if there were people that didn't buy a Wii because they looked to intimidating and different to get used to.
