She was plenty old enough to get what was going on (I believe they said she was 8 or 10).  I don't know if you've played Portal 2 but the mood there is painfully obvious. 

The father and people like him need to learn not to be so overly sensitive about everything and the news needs to actually have some sort of context.  Of course neither of those things will ever happen.
