One the RE series was announced as a gamecube exclusive, Shinji convinced Capcom to start working on a Resident Evil 1 remake using Gamecube Hardware with improved controls and an updated interface. On release it was praised for its amazing graphics but almost everyone found the interface to be as archaic as its PS1 brethren.
Resident Evil 0 used the same engine and "archaic" control scheme as REmake, however it implemented a unique partner system which produced innovative gameplay styles and puzzles.
While REmake overshot Capcom's sales estimates, RE:0 did not meet its sales target. RE:0 failed to beat the sales of REmake and this sent Capcom executives into a tizzy over their support for the Gamecube. The poor sales of Project No. 3 (deservedly), Viewtiful Joe, Viewtiful Joe 2 and Killer 7 did not help nintendo's case.
Shinji Mikami took things in his stride and decided to concentrate all his efforts into revamping RE4. He decided to listen to his fans and critcis and took pains to revamp its gameplay style.
RE4 was released to great sales on the Gamecube, of course it did not help matters with Capcom blunting sales by announcing a PS2 port a few months before the Gamecube release. The gamecube release sold about 1.6 million (considering its install base and REmake sales of 1.4 million, sales were underwhelming. a lot of multiplatform owners holding out for a PS2 port with additional content), The PS2 version sold 2.5 million doing exceedingly well in Japan.
Capcom could consider a REmake+Resident Evil 0 Wiimake-Bundle for about 30-40$. I dont see why both games wont fit in a DVD9.
Heeeeyyyy!!!! <Snap>
