The Good:

  • Great boss battles - The boss battles in Demon's Souls were fun for the most part. The scale was amazing for some bosses, and they required a bit of strategy to defeat them. Demon Souls gets an A from me in boss fights.
  • World 1 & 3 - These two worlds are my favorite from the game. The atmosphere is great, level designs are fantastic, great little touches that adds to atmosphere, etc. World 4 is good too, but it's nowhere near as great as the two I mentioned.
  • Tendency System - I thought this was great since it adds to the game's atmosphere. Actions you take affect's the world's tendency balance. Making the world tilt toward dark tendency makes enemies stronger and your weapons weaker. It's a nice touch.
  • Great online implementation - I love that you can see how other players died, and most of them are pretty hilarious (falling out of stupidity :P). Also, enjoyed that players can leave messages/warnings and summon people to help you fight a boss. However, there were times when I wanted to avoid the online stuff.
  • Made a profit - I was able to sell one of my Deluxe Edition copy for $130.

Indifferent:

  • Gameplay - The gameplay was alright, imo, but it did feel a little clunky and slow. Also, you easily beat a few bosses and those 'tough' enemies by spamming with your magic.

The Bad:

  • World 2 & 5: Personally, I found those two worlds boring, especially 2. 2-2 was one of the crappiest levels ever; all you do is fall down. The level designs weren't that great for those two worlds.
  • Lack of direction: There were times when I asked myself, "why am I going into these worlds?" "What's my motivation? Why am I doing this?" I got bored of the game because the game lacked focus and two of the five worlds bored me.
  • Framerate: I encountered a few framerate problems, and it was pretty annoying when I got them. I usually encountered this issue when I was fighting a group of enemies or running away.
  • A little too predictable: For the most part of the game, I took it slow. I didn't rush through the game leaving myself open to ambush attacks. I would walk into every room very slowly with the shield up, because I KNEW there might be an enemy waiting ambush me. It's pretty hilarious how many times there was an enemy hiding in the corner, just waiting to blindside me. But they didn't fool me. It got a little annoying how many times this happened. It's cheap.
  • No option to avoid online elements: While I like the online components, I would have liked an option to turn off those elements because it would distract me at certain occasions like someone invading my world. Not only most I worry about the enemies in the world, but I also have to check my back for that player. I didn't feel comfortable progressing through a level.
  • No convinient way to communicate with partners - Pretty self-explanatory. I couldn't really tell my partner what to do, so he had to do things his way while I did it my way.

Score: 7.0
