I don't need their IP on PC. Steam or otherwise.
I don't know the details but thats because there is a server of some kind set up for at the very least the waiting room
Actually there are MANY different server browsers on PC. Including Steam.
For the same games no less.
You can use like 15-20 differnet server browsers for TF2 or Battlefield BC or whatever you wanna play.
Point being... having one service being the monolithic server browser for every game in a system... is... stupid... and I hope I don't have to explain why.
You didn't contradict me, you actually proved my point you still need A server but the question becomes on a close platform where does the servers come from if not from the company who makes the platform? You say they should do something else but don't say what else they can do

Pssssst *whispering* it's called opening up your service to allow for people to dedicate their own servers, you know it's not hard, every online service ever has done it till XBL came into the scene, heck if it was built that way this whole situation would be a mild inconvience (of not being able to access the PSN store and your friends list) while still playing on Gamespys servers (since Sony uses the same services Nintendo uses for online ^^)
It would create hacking and cheaters that Sony wouldn't have any control over it and it would also make it impossible to switch between servers with a character so if the server is down you still can't play your character with your account and I was talking about the p2p games not dedicated server games, no1 is going to go out of their way for a waiting room and if the game makers did it it makes having one account for all games impossible and everything related to that, a open network just isn't a option on a closed system
Uh I can use my Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II characters on official servers (which are off now) or on fan hosted servers (who have a more direct control than even big corporations do and instead of waiting hours for a ban there's often times someone always on to ban them immediately)
Seriously man give it up on that whole angle for your argument, it really doesn't work, yes individuals make servers to hack cause some people have fun with a modified game, others run a tighter ship than the official servers, and that's what it's all about, choice and freedom, cause nothing is stopping you from using official servers in this case.
You do realize switching like that opens up cheating, you go on a hacking server get all the best items and max level then go back to official ones not to mention piracy since the servers have to actually have the code to run it it's just a mess of piracy and cheating waiting to happen and has happened on pc
