Shantae: Risky's Revenge on DSi is a short metroidvania action/platformer. It's pretty good, especially for a downloadable game. Items give you new powers to reach new sections of an otherwise open world.
I agree, I love this genre, but there are unfortunatly not enough, pure action/platformers around anymore. Many have gimicks, that even if cool, change the game a bit. I personally find myself playing through the GBA/DS Castlevanias over and over to get my fix.
