The United States is a largely Agrarian society with a average population density at less then a seventh of the UK. The man in the video also appears to be handling the weapon properly, and operating it in accord with the law. That means that the gun is basically safe he has no real chance of harming anyone else, and almost no chance of actually doing harm to himself or his friend. Say what you want about him being a shmuck, but his handling of the weapons in no way appears to be sloppy or stupid.
I live in the country side, and hear weapons being discharged on almost a daily basis. During Deer hunting season the area outside is filled with hundreds or thousands of men carrying guns. Your sensibility would tell you that a lot of people are going to get killed every year. We haven't had a fatality in almost twenty years, and even then the fatalities were caused by a sniper intentionally shooting hunters.
Anyway it is hardly as unsettling as you think. It isn't that I am cavalier with my safety living where all these guns are going off all the time. I just know it is highly unlikely that I am going to get accidentally shot. I have a better chance of contracting a strange disease, being struck by lightning, or burning to death in a housefire. Where I live is probably a lot safer then where you live.
I am no gun enthusiast by the way, I don't own a gun, and have never fired a gun. I just know a abundance of guns does not mean anything is less safe. Alcohol kills more people locally then bullets. I am sure it is probably the same where you live. Do you feel unsettled by people openly kicking back mugs of beer? It is just unsettling, because you are not used to it. Not that it is actually dangerous.
