Why do some gamers feel the need to justify their gaming hobby by trying to pass it off as art ?

Who needs anything to do with justification? I just want my passion to be as respected as other forms of media are. To me, gaming is something that can stand neck and neck with other forms of media in terms of craftmanship and artistic merit, so gaming gaining official recognition is good news, and something I care about.

I want games to be taken as seriously as books, movies and what have you, so this is a nice step in the right direction.

If someone wants gaming to be considered art so that others will take it seriously or respect it, I think that's trying to justify   it.

Who the fk cares what other people think about your gaming habits.

But anyways, art seems to be a subjective thing, so I guess I can't say wether it is art or not.

I just know i don't care.

I don't want gaming to be more respected so that my passion for gaming seems justified, I want gaming to be more respected so that I can better share it. Sharing is caring, and I really want to share my passion with the people around me, but it's not always easy if people don't take it seriously enough.

Plus I want to create games for a living, so people taking my craft seriously rather than dismissing it would be nice.
