i like my movies with uncompressed full 1080p, with lossless, uncompresssed, 7.1 surround sound. thankyou.

and with my movie collection and game collection, i would need terabytes of hardrive space. and God forbid anything happen to all that data.

music is way different. it takes up a ton ton ton less space, and people like listening to it on the go. it has no visual component to it, you just listen. games and movies require a lot more of your attention and time, and also take up Gb of space. and games are just going to get bigger next gen. can you imagine how long it would take me to download KZ3 from the internet, and then multiply that by a lot for next gen. 

internet infrastructure is not stong enough to support things like that.


And just like digital music was a downgrade from cd audio, its about the convience. In the US its far too convienient. Its also just more cost effective for alot of people. It has never taken me hours to download a hd movie. I can usually have one downloaded quicker than if I go rent/ buy one, not to mention streqaming on netflix only takes a few minutes. I know physical media will be around as there are people who prefer it, but it won't be theaverage persons main way of getting media. (in the US atleast). Harddrive space is cheap. I have a 2 terabyte internal drive that is not even half full, and a 2 terabyte external drive for back up.

Funny thing about music, I hardly buy music anymore. Movie soundtracks can still impress me at 5.1 lossless 24bit sound. CD audio just sounds dull with 16 bit dolby prologic.

It takes me 2 to 3 hours to download a 10mbps movie. Streaming caps out at 5mbps. Blu-rays max 54mbps is still pretty low imo. Sure the average person doesn't care that much about quality, nor does it matter much when seen on a 42" screen using the tv speaker. Not many people spend 20k on a theater room instead of buying a car :)

But the average person doesn't have super high speed internet either without download caps. Netflix would just not work for friends of mine. With 2 teenagers they're already struggling to stay under the download limit.
