That seems like a huuuuuuuuge mistake.
There is so much information still developing, having one large monolithic thread almost gurantees important information will be lost to people who just don't want to sit through 4 pages of arguements like
"It's ok though because someone else might get more worse hacked down the line!"
That's why there usually aren't "Official threads" like that... and only for games, where there is going to be less pointless squabble.
I mean the "Xbox 360 dev says Sony should of expected consumer retaliation story probably would go 200 posts itself between back and forth "What sony did was bad" "No it wasn't I mean what about RROD."
Then you might miss that the attorny general has started a probe into the issue.
