I got that from... security experts in the field. Also from people I know who in fact have gotten credit in other peoples name.
So... direct expierence and expert testimony.
Banks actually aren't required to get your SS# for example.

There is plenty you can pull. Heck my friend didn't need anything but a Name and an adress to get a credit card in his dad's name.

Then that was that bank's fault if that ever even happened. And there are certain circumstances where the bank is required to obtain your SSN. http://cpsr.org/issues/privacy/ssn-private/
Under Banks: "Banks and various others are required by the IRS to report the SSNs of account holders to whom they pay interest. If you don't tell them your number you will probably either be refused an account or be charged a penalty such as withholding of taxes on your interest."
Also, I find it funny how on that "expert's" website, there is a disclaimer that reads "Disclaimer: I am not an attorney or a professional financial advisor. Information you obtain from this website should not be considered as legal or financial planning advice. You should consult with a consumer attorney for legal advice and an accountant for individualized financial planning." And nowhere on her site does it say that she went to business or law school to become this "expert", it is all only from personal experience.
Finally, if what you suggest is even true, getting a credit card with only your name and address, than I got some work to do cause I'm going to go in the phone book and start up hundreds of thousands of accounts.

Then you should get started... because that is about all you need. Don't forget the loss of security questions, birthdate and other things.
I mean, you can deny the expert quoted in the first article, but your just denying reality.
|
Security questions don't mean a thing. They were only associated with PSN, not people's other accounts or CC info. And I could find out most people's birthdate by checking out their account on Facebook or Myspace. I will also continue to deny the expert in that article because she is NOT an expert. My laptop has had several viruses before, so I guess that makes me an expert on creating firewalls and anti-virus SW? Doesn't work that way.

Huh?
What makes her an expert is that she is certified in Identity Theft Risk Management.
She went to school to learn about this and she gets paid to do this.
If you got a bunch of viruses... then went to school to be an expert on createing firewalls and anti-virus software... (and passed) then yeah, i'd say you were an expert.
Also, who is going to open up a bank account in someone elses name to collect interest? You open up accounts to get lines of credit and then disapear... and again I know people who have done this... without SS and DL.
