Agree to disagree, things could have been much worse and no.....no they didn't have to offer anything.

They did if they wanted to appear like they care for their customers.  It's basic operating procedure.  To not, would of actually hurt them pretty badly.

Also how could things of been much worse?  The information lost was more dangerous then any credit card numbers.

How could it have been much worse....well let's see, the service could have been down for much longer and the information provided could have been far worse.

As I said though, lets agree to drop it. You have your thoughts, and I'll keep mine.

They didn't have any information that was much worse for them to lose though.  The only thing they didn't lose was credit card numbers... and though everyone is freaking out about CC #.  I'd much rather have my SS number stolen then the information that was stolen.  A few extra credit charges that would be wiped off my account in a month or two is nothing compaired to Identity theft.

I guess the service could of been down much longer... though I can't think of any hacking that took down a service for much longer.

If you want to drop it, sure.   However, I don't see how it's an issue of opinion really, since the tangiable effects of these things can be measured.
