I agree with you about starting a new trilogy on the current Xbox and then continuing it on the next one. I really like continuing stories and I'm sure that other people feel the same way. Look at some of the biggest movies out there like Spiderman, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and many other series. People want to follow story for more than one short installmen. Starting another trilogy would be a smart move. Since I'm really obsorbed into the stories of the KH (main story only) and Shenmue series, I would buy whatever console these games are released on. There are also many people who bought the xbox 360 to finish the original halo trilogy. I was one of them. Microsoft should use Halo, their biggest exclusive, to rope people into wanting their next console.
