here is a slightly interesting fact: Unlike many other historic English cities with Cathedrals, such as Coventry and Canterbury, my hometown of Winchester was rarely bombed during the Second World War. This is because apparently Hitler wished to be proclaimed ruler of the British Isles in both Westminster Abbey and Winchester Cathedral, in the way William I was in 1066 (the last successful invasion of Britain).
There is probably loads of other similar stories of Hitler's Anglophilia on the web as well.
