I agree that's also the first thought that popped up when I saw some maps. Reminds me particularly of the Shambhala and the Nepal maps. I believe it's both the color scheme and perhaps the lightning.
Anywho it looks beautiful!
Gears of War 2 still surprises me as of today. Some textures were amazing.
