“The mobile phone market is the mother of all growth markets,” said Dr. Eli Harary during the SanDisk press conference at the 2008 CES. In recognition of this rapidly growing market, along with the popularity of flash memory storage, SanDisk Corp. has announced a 12 GB microSDHC flash memory card, which will be available for major phone manufacturers to test and evaluate.
“Mobile phones have become a key part of consumers’ lifestyles around the globe,” said Jeff Kost, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Mobile Consumer Solutions division at SanDisk. “What many people tend to overlook is the important role that removable storage cards play in enabling the key features of these fully featured mobile phones. In fact, many people are not even aware that their phone has a card slot which is why SanDisk recently launched its Wake Up Your Phone campaign.”
The 1mm thin card adheres to the SD Speed Class 4 rating, and boasts a whopping 50 billion transistors. Harari mused that if you took that many ants and sat them in a line, they’d circle the earth twice!
As more and more consumers move toward one, multifunctional device for storing all of their data on the go, large capacity cards will become of even greater importance.
