Break? Maybe not. It's certainly negatively impacted my play experience. There are more than a few games where I wish they hadn't even bothered with voices.
Make? No More Heroes. Not that it had stellar voice performances, but the cheese just wouldn't come through properly in text, and like a meal from Pizza Butt, it wouldn't be worth having without the cheese. Bioware games are very well enhanced by voice work, even before they became obsessed with cinematic flair, but they'd still be fantastic without voice work.
