I would also like to point out when you buy an box of an game, or an movie or an song etc. You do not OWN that song, game, movie etc. You own an cover and an disk with that media on it. This is the diference between media and say an car or an tv where once you buy it, you OWN it and can do what you want with it. Media is difference because you cant go an reproduce that media an sell it as your own, but with an car you can reband it as an Wagram Automobile an sell it. Media is an whole different story when it comes to owning it, So cutting out the box and the disk doesn't affect you using that game, song or movie. But if Movies, songs and games are to move all DD in the future, then the prices better go down. |
I don't think it's the fact whether it's actually owning the piece of property or not. It's rather the fact that a lot of people like having the physical piece of property (Bluray discs are tough and are hard to damage) because of its reliability. With the digital format, there are many things that could go wrong that could make you end up losing your game. A company could take down the game off the digital service and you could lose everything on the hard drive, which would mean you can't download it again and can't play the game anymore, which is just one example. With the physical copy, you don't have to worry about anything like that happening.
