Failed is a bit strong. Though I agree.
Blu-ray has been more like a popular Laser Disc.
Laser Disc wasn't a complete failure. Long after it failed to beat VHS, people still collected Laserdisc and they still put out movies for it.
It was the visual spectacle media of it's time.
