Of course the next Nintendo console will support HD. How could it not. There's no UP from Wii graphics that aren't HD. You don't expect them to go sideways or worse graphics, that would be absurd.
Will it be more powerful than PS4/X720? Chances are hell no. Should it? No. Nintendo has a niche. That niche is Nintendo games on the least expensive console to target the most number of people and they should stick with it. Hardly anybody bought the Wii for 3rd party games, they bought it for Nintendo games. And that is what they will buy the next Nintendo console for.
It is assured first place? No. That's just the way it goes. The Wii (for reasons beyond me, since I vehemently dislike current motion controls) captured the imagination of the gaming (and non-gaming) world with something new and unique and had the games the back it up. This next go round will be a tougher sell. We are already acclimated to motion controls, in fact the rumored controller with the screen on it is not even that innovative.
Nintendo is gonna have to one two punch again. Unique hardware and good software. Otherwise they will be thrown back to the Gamecube games again, still profitable, but not at all at the front of the pack.
