Because it's 2 consoles you have to deal with instead of 1. 2 consoles that break instead of 1.

My current PS2 (2 years old as of march) is re-accessing discs a lot more and occasionally coming up with DRE (1st lasted almost 2 years then stopped reading blue discs and randomly got DRE. When I set aside some cash I'll have to shell out another $130 AGAIN for replacement hardware, that's going to be at least 3 new games (used games up to 8-9) that I won't be getting anytime soon or not at all BECAUSE MY BUDGET IS TIGHT. I want to get One Piece for Wii this month, but I can't as I now need to save up for a new video card for my PC (ATI HD3870 512mb for $200), I had to give up my old one (X1600XT 256mb), and my onboard video don't cut it (X1200 onboard, shared system memory).

If my PS2 goes too soon, it'll stay that way until I get my PC what I need, it's the higher priority of the two, even with me currently playing through Tales of the Abyss and enjoying it.

Edit : I was thankful at the time that the PS2 played almost all PS1 games, as my 2nd PS1 was also dying at the time I got my first PS2.  I won't be so lucky this time. :(

Nobody is crazy enough to accuse me of being sane.
