Given you can cut out the middle man and buy/sell on eBay and the like I say used games are absolutely fine. But I wouldn't buy a game used if it was a game with only modest to low sales. Games like that need the support if they are good games. So I was always going to buy Demon's Souls and Valkyria Chonicles new. However games with moderately high sales I'll tend to buy used if they are games I only have a passing interest in and I see them available used for a real bargain price. Otherwise I'll just give them a miss entirely.
I support EA's online pass system. If you want to play online and you've bought the game used I think it's fair enough to pay a small one off cost towards the upkeep of the online component, which new game buyers are paying for up front.
