Unless Sony felt they were going to lose the case, reaching a settlement doesn't make any sense. They could have gained some serious ground in the PS3 hacking war had they won the case. The hacking of PS3's would probably been made illegal and the whole PS3 hacking scene would had taken a serious hit. Now none of that happened. |
Actually, it will effect others. Geohot legally agreed to Sony terms. Therefore anyone else who does the same that Geohot was taken to court for could also be subjected to the same penalties set forth when caught and tried. It's not so much about Geohot, but moreso that his actions were agreed to be illegal. All the lawyers have to do is pull this case out as proof. Geohot sold himself out.
