why didnt they just bury him?  He had already committed the "crime"...  

If their case was watertight there is no way they would have compromised...  why would they?  for what?

you can ask the same Q other wway too..no one put a gun on hotz's head and ask him to settle. Sony wanted him to back off from the begining and that's exactly what they got now. If he messes with anything sony again he will be fined from 10k to 200k or something. Why should sony bother any furthure? The so called freedom fighter now and forever will be ridden of from sony products, sending him to jail could have lead to bad publicity. The message from this outcome is clear, hotz backed down ONLY cuz he knew he can't win this one, if you think otherwise you're being silly, hotz would have not stopped till the court ruled against sony. not like he wouldn't have money since people seem to be willing to pay for the court (and who knows maybe even his vacation :) I don't trust his word)

Forgive me but thats bollocks...  Hotz cant back down without Sony allowing him to, HE was being sued.

Why did Sony ALLOW Hotz to back down.. why didnt they say fuck you - see you in court.  Get a nice precendent for future issues and have done with it?

any company unless they are real stupid will settle for an outcome like this..always. It helps keep the possible bad publicity at bay while making the other party their bitch. Sony just don't have any reason to push the case any furthure. They just simpyl don't. Push it more and what? put the guy in jail or fine him? and how will that help their cause? scare hackers? Yeah right. It just doesn't make any sense in the long run, why waste more time when hotz is willing to back off for good? this is not a middle schoolers fight where one needz to haz revenge or anything. Settle if you can if it's favorable to you, and looking at the settlement, sony got him to do exactly what they wanted. THis DOES however send out a message, hotz who was so determined, had financial backing of 'fans', who had media coverage, who had a promising career in rap, settled only because he knew he can't win! You honestly believe if he thought he had a chance to win he wouldn't have gone all the way? SO again it's he who had to go against all he stood by so far, sony is still standing strong with what they stood for.
