Infamous really isn't the best example to bring up for its platforming aspects. It's a guided experience that anybody can master. When you're traversing rooftops and sliding along a chain of powerlines, you'll often find yourself heading towards the next powerline even if you're not totally accurate with your aim.
Actual platform games are nothing like that, you need precision which is why anybody can play them, but not everyone can master them. If you make a jump and you don't get it right, you'll probably die, depending on where you are in the game. But if we're talking about something as precarious as riding a powerline several stories high, then yes you probably would die in the equivalent event in a platform game if you were off with your aim.
