I think the age of the user base of each console plays a big factor in online presence. Also, I don't know if anyone posted this yet, but the active install base of the PS3 is higher than that of the 360, so that might be another reason. The Wii's active install base is higher than both, but the average age of Wii owners is probably a lot younger than the PS3 and 360 user base.
"According to the company's data, the Nintendo Wii continues to enjoy the world's largest install base with 75.5 million active units worldwide, but the active install base of PS3s reached 43.4 million at the close of 2010 versus Xbox 360's 42.9."
