It's true that PlayStation fans were more likely to get banned back in the day, but that had more to do with the surrounding circumstances than unfair treatment. Many were frustrated that the PS3 didn't take off and as a result made remarks that would still get you banned on today's VGC. I guess many were also shocked that you couldn't say things like Wii has no real games and Nintendo is all kiddie like on all the other multiplatform gaming websites and thus the perception was built that VGC is overly pro-Nintendo. |
I think the difference was back then that you could definitely get away more with saying stuff about Sony. I remember when there were threads that were just discussing the games themselves (uncharted, killzone, etc.) And then someone would just chime "PS3 domination starts with this game, lol, lol, lol" or "Sony fanboys think this game will save the PS3, lol lol lol." even when the thread wasn't about whether the game would "save" the PS3. It took a while before those people started facing consequences.
"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY." --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials
