Sorry, but LBP is a bad platformer, the out-of-the-box game isn't fun if you're not playing it with... like... three other pepole.
This is a game that was created so that pepole will make good levels for it, and not the development team itself.
Platformers like Mario or Crash Bandicoot are fun, because they are games that are simple to learn, yet require a lot of skill in the tougher levels.
SMB3 is a really really fun game :)
