Sony has lost the last three times it backed a format (Beta, Minidisk and its MP3 player system). So to say that the PS3 meant a win for Blu-Ray was anything but certain.
It does mean though that the PS3 has better long-term value. And that MS is fortunate that it only made the HD-DVD as an add-on, so it can be forgotten like the 32X.
