thanks for the advice, i think ill buy a new slim then sell the broken one. But there is one other problem my black ops disk is still in the broken ps3, because it broke mid game. How can i get it out?

I'd buy the slim, the PS3 60GB will probably break again

I'd try to fix the PS3 60GB myself, and get it working for a short while to be able to get the Black Ops disk out, or you can pay a repair man, he'll fix it up and get your game back (you can also get your game saves out of your hard drive this way too, Sony would erase your hard drive if you sent it away)

I wouldn't recommend paying a repair guy money to fix a PS3 unless he guarantees his work for 90 days at minimum, 1 year preferably.

In most cases, he's only going to be doing a solder joint reflow (an easy fix) which as many have been saying, is only a temporary fix.

Reballing the CPU/GPU is a far more extensive repair that requires much more expensive equipment. It goes without saying that unless Repair Guy says specifically he's reballing the solder joints, he isn't.

Now if you're just paying Repair Guy to resurrect your console long enough to get your HDD data, sure. By all means; only you can put a price on what those game saves or whatever you have on your HDD is worth.
