And it is.  It's illegal to remove or stop supporting a feature you advertise.  Who said it was only illegal for sony.  If MS tried to disable DVD viewing or the wii... well the wii doesn't do anything but play games does it?  I guess remove gamecube games.

It'd be just as illegal.
