And constitution don't grant you a "freedom of speech online for anything"... you may have a freedom of speech independent than the Media, but you are also liable for what you say - and this is what Sony is trying there. About the IP that would be invasion of privacy, but as Sony got it legally in court then no one can sue then or say they done anything illegal - no matter how much you don't like it - even more because the use is restrict to prove jurisdiction not hack your account - as some hackers would do (not all sure). And about don't letting people see GeoHotz saying that isn't free of speech also, that is free acess to information (that isn't even a constitutional right)... GeoHotz could curse Sony in 100 different languages and badmouth them on TV or newspaper and Sony couldn't - and probably wouldn't even try even more because they would gain publicity, maybe if they see harm to their pockets they may prosecute to compensation (and if GeoHotz were right about his complaint Sony that would need to pay legal expenses)... What he did isn't freedom of speech is breach of some laws. |
Who mentioned anything about freedom of speech? I certainly didnt.
Who said Sony illegally gained access to IP addresses from youtube and geohot's host. I certainly didnt.
Who mentioned anything about the 'constitution'? Ive got news or you bro, the whole world doesnt revolve around america. Youtube doesnt filter on counrty of origin for user submitted videos. The supoened IP's are from all over the globe, it was only tried in america because thats where youtube is hosted and registered as a company.
My arguement is that Sony is currently investigating thousands of innocent people's internet connections on the basis that they watched a youtube video . . . A step well beyond the power of any corporate entity. Even ISP's are forbidden from monitoring internet traffic unless they have a legitimate reason why they should be, so what makes Sony so special?
Are you seriously suggesting that upon release a PS3 cost $800 to manufacture yet they were retailing them at $600? I used to work at the head office of the largest electronics consumer retailer in the UK and I can tell you something, everything you see as 'a great sale price' etc still has a profit margin in there. Thats the nature of business. Not only would Sony be losing $200 per unit on the manufacturing costs, they'd also be losing cash on inventory and logistical overheads.
My viewpoint is that Geohot paid his '$600' for a bunch of electrical components soldered together and placed in a plastic enclosure and should be able to do whatever he wants with it. Afterall, it is legally his property. He didnt rent his ps3 from Sony, he bought it.
I agree that what he did would probably influence the lives of the games developers and Sony. I have never said otherwise. But what about all the artists, actors, distributors and film companies currently losing billions of dollars through illegal torrenting. None of them have ever supoened the millions of internet connections worldwide that regularly download illegal movies, or software, or music.
And finally, . . . a troll is someone who enters a thread and posts off topic discussion, usually in an attempt to divert attention away from the original post. Given that my post reflected my opinion ABOUT THE ORIGINAL POST I daresay this is a crime I am yet to commit. You may wanna brush the dust off that urban dictionary of yours and look the word 'troll' up.
