Given that there are a fair amount of action movie fans here, I thought I'd share the best movie (so far) of 2011 with you.
It came out on the 1st, and is, so far, my favorite movie of a sub-par year. Its a grindhouse movie - low budget, extremely violent, and is a hard R-rated movie. Its not a movie for the squeamish, or for those wanting a movie with a grand storyline.
There are good guys who deliver justice, and there are pedofiles, child-killers, and drug dealers that are dealt with in the movie. The kills are well-thought out, and the overall arc of the movie is great.
The most interesting aspect of the movie is the deployment strategy. Instead of going straight to DVD, it had a limited run in Canadian theaters, then was followed for sale via On-Demand channels before its release worldwide. I was able to watch it in HD for $15.00 USD - the price of a movie ticket to some theaters near me. Of course, I had friends over to watch it, so it was much, much cheaper.
